Leasing Calculator
Leasing Calculator See Your Real Monthly Repayment
This leasing calculator estimates your monthly repayment and total cost when financing a vehicle or piece of equipment through a lease. Enter the purchase price, any residual value, the loan term, interest rate, and whether payments are made in arrears or in advance, and it returns your monthly repayment, total interest payable, and total payment amount.
The residual value is the part most people underestimate the effect of, since it changes both the monthly repayment and the total interest paid over the term. Output is an estimate based on your inputs, not a finance offer.
Why the Residual Value Changes Your Repayment So Much
A residual value, sometimes called a balloon payment, is the amount left owing at the end of the lease term rather than being paid off through your regular repayments. Setting a residual reduces what you’re financing across the term, which lowers your monthly repayment, but that residual amount still needs to be paid or refinanced when the lease ends.
On a $50,000 purchase with a $20,000 residual over 24 months at 6 percent, the monthly repayment comes out lower than if the full $50,000 were being paid down over the same term, since only the $30,000 difference is being amortised through regular payments. This leasing calculator shows that trade-off directly, a lower monthly repayment now against a lump sum still owing at the end. Whether payments are made in arrears or in advance also shifts the numbers slightly, since paying in advance means interest is calculated on a lower average balance across the term.
How to Use the Calculator
You’ll need the finance details you’re comparing or considering:
Purchase price. The full price of the vehicle or equipment
Residual value. The amount left owing at the end of the term, if any
Loan term, in months
Interest rate
Payments made. In arrears or in advance
The leasing calculator returns your monthly repayment, total interest payable across the term, and total payment amount, along with a chart showing how the balance and total payments track against each other. Run it with and without a residual value to see how much it changes your monthly repayment versus what you’ll owe at the end.
How ADA Financial Services Helps
A leasing calculator gives you repayment figures on a standard structure. A broker looks at whether an equipment finance calculator result actually reflects the best structure for your situation, including whether a residual value makes sense for how long you plan to keep the asset.
ADA Financial Services compares vehicle and equipment finance options across our lender panel, and helps structure the residual and term to suit your cash flow and how long you intend to hold the asset. Our fee is paid by the lender at settlement in most standard cases, disclosed in writing before any application proceeds. We’re based on the Sunshine Coast and work with borrowers across Northern Australia.

FAQs
What is a residual value on a lease?
It’s the amount left owing at the end of the lease term rather than being paid off through your regular repayments, sometimes called a balloon payment. It needs to be paid or refinanced when the lease ends.
Does a higher residual value always mean a lower monthly repayment?
Generally yes, since less of the purchase price is being paid down through regular repayments, but the trade-off is a larger lump sum owing at the end of the term.
What's the difference between payments in arrears and in advance?
Payments in arrears are made at the end of each period, while payments in advance are made at the start. Paying in advance slightly reduces total interest, since it’s calculated on a lower average balance.
What happens to the residual amount when the lease ends?
You typically need to pay it out in full, refinance it into a new loan, or trade in the asset toward a new purchase, depending on the lender and the type of finance.
What This Loan Repayment Calculator Shows
This loan repayment calculator estimates what you will pay each month on a home loan, how much of that payment goes to interest versus principal, and the total interest charged across the full term. You enter your loan amount, interest rate, term, and repayment frequency. The output gives you a clean repayment figure to plan around and a total cost number that most borrowers underestimate.
The estimate is based on the inputs you provide and assumes a standard principal and interest loan with a constant interest rate. Real loans vary as rates move and fees apply. Treat the output as a planning figure, not a loan offer.
